Indie developer Anas Abdin made a blog post on 8월 21st, 2018, citing that he would be filing a lawsuit against CBS to sue them for plagiarizing his indie project 타 디그라 데스, which he alleges CBS ripped off of for the 2017 streaming show 스타 트랙 : 디스커버리.
In the post, Abdin writes…
“The last 10 months were so hard on me and the development of the project. I tried every possible way to have a respectful and reasonable discussion with CBS but they treated me in disrespect and just dangled me around with postponing meetings due to their vacations and being busy. The first conversation turned into the last one. I gave them a lot of time to make things right. Unfortunately, I found myself at a dead end with them, and so I had to enforce my rights by filing a lawsuit to treat me seriously.”
Abdin recently discussed the lawsuit with YouTuber DoomCock in a near 10 minute video.
For those of you unfamiliar with the case, 타 디그라 데스 is a point-and-click adventure game that was announced and submitted onto Steam Greenlight in November of 2014. 타 디그라 데스 was later voted through Steam Greenlight back on 11월 13th, 2015.
On 11 월 2nd, 2015, a year after 타 디그라 데스 was announced and barely two weeks before 타 디그라 데스 was greenlit, CBS Television Studios announced 스타 트랙 : 디스커버리, revealing that the show would premiere in January of 2017.
Abdin alleges that CBS stole a number of ideas from his game, including that the giant blue tardigrades used in the game to teleport people across the galaxy are also featured in 스타 트랙 : 디스커버리 as giant blue creatures that power the ability to teleport people across the galaxy.
The similarities don’t end there, as Abdin put together a comparison sheet showing the similarities between both projects.
Abdin originally drew comparisons between the two projects ina blog post on 10월 18th, 2017, which shows gif comparisons, as well as a description of the characters.
One of the comparisons is eerily similar, which involves a bearded middle-eastern character in 타 디그라 데스 named Aziz who happens to be gay. There’s also a bearded gay guy on 스타 트랙 : 디스커버리 going by the name of Dr. Hugh Colber.
In 타 디그라 데스 there’s also a pale white guy who meets up with Aziz, while in 스타 트랙 : 디스커버리 there’s a white guy with blonde hair who ends up in a relationship with Dr. Hugh Colber.
The similarities were apparent enough that even MundaneMatt did a video back in 2017 on the indie game and the streaming show sharing a lot of coincidental plot elements and characters.
Some believed that maybe both had similar characters, plot devices, and character traits, but that it was all just coincidence. Others felt as if some of the creators working on the show may have lifted the ideas from the game after maybe seeing it at some point.
Some people discounted the possibility of it being plagiarism, saying that maybe they just had the same idea of using the micro-species, a tardigrade, as a space-conduit for travel. The only problem with that is that tardigrades are brownish and insect like. You can check out an image below from Mother Nature Network to get an idea of an artist’s render of how the micro-species looks.

Changing the way the species looks and the added element of making the tardigrade blue space travelers definitely raised some eyebrows. When you see the comparison gifs it also makes it hard to call it a coincidence.
Many anti-SJWs and 스타 트렉 fans are cheering on the lawsuit because they feel as if 스타 트랙 : 디스커버리 was an SJW-laden farce 일의 스타 트렉 actually is.
~에 관해서는 타 디그라 데스, the game is still heavy in development, but was waylaid due to the plagiarism case that the developer tried to get resolved. You can check out the gameplay trailer for the game below to get an idea of what the point-and-click sci-fi adventure is like.
